Video Frame Grabber

Save a single video frame as PNG, JPEG or WebP, or export a time range as a ZIP of numbered JPEG frames.

Choose or drag in a file – it stays on your device.

Your files and input never leave your browser – nothing is uploaded.

Large files need a lot of memory; everything runs locally in your browser. Recommended: files under ~500 MB, on a desktop. Processing may be slow on phones. Keep this tab open.

Extract frames from video, as one PNG or as a ZIP

A 40 MB screen recording of a bug does not fit into a ticket. One PNG from the right second does. This page lets you extract frames from video files and save a single frame as PNG, JPEG or WebP, or a whole time range as numbered JPEG files in a ZIP.

The page address ends in video-to-gif, but the tool does not encode GIFs. It saves frames. If you need an animation, load the frames into a GIF editor.

From file to frame in five steps

  1. Drop a video onto the drop zone or press Select video. The editor opens as soon as the browser has read the file header.
  2. Drag the timeline slider to the moment you want. -1 Frame and +1 Frame move the position in steps of 0.04 seconds.
  3. For one image, press Save as PNG, Save as JPEG or Save as WebP.
  4. For a sequence, enter the start and end time in seconds. Pick 5, 10, 15 or 20 FPS and a width of 320, 480, 640 or 800 px.
  5. Press Export all frames as ZIP archive. A progress bar counts the frames, and the ZIP downloads when the last one is done.

What a ZIP export does to your frames and your memory

A single snapshot keeps the full resolution of the video, so a 4K frame saved as PNG can be several megabytes. Frames in the ZIP follow other rules. They are always JPEG at quality 0.9, scaled to the width you chose, and the height follows the aspect ratio. If the video is narrower than your choice, the frames are enlarged, not sharper.

The number of frames is the duration times the FPS, rounded down. Above 200 frames the tool asks you to confirm. It keeps every frame in memory until the ZIP is built, so a very long range can fail on a small device.

One more trap: the step buttons move by 0.04 s, which equals 25 frames per second. On 30 or 60 FPS footage a step can skip a frame. And if your browser cannot decode the codec, the editor does not open. Audio, trimming and conversion of the video itself are not part of this tool.

Jobs it does well

  • Thumbnails. Scrub to the frame where the speaker's eyes are open and save it as JPEG.
  • Stills for mock-ups, taken from a phone clip.
  • Raw material: ten seconds at 10 FPS give 100 files, frame_0001.jpg to frame_0100.jpg, for a GIF maker, a sprite sheet tool or a contact sheet.

Where the recording goes

Everything. The video plays in a local video element, frames are drawn on a canvas, and the ZIP is built in the page. A button press sends no request, and the Network panel of your developer tools shows that. Files reach you as a normal browser download. The clipboard is not used.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Load the video, move the slider to the frame, then press Save as PNG, Save as JPEG or Save as WebP. The image has the full resolution of the video.
